The annual Archdiocesan Eucharistic procession held on the solemnity of Christ the King at Christ the Bearer of the Good News Cathedral, Dispur evoked a devotional response from nearly four thousand Catholics from the 44 parishes of the Archdiocese of Guwahati on 25 November 2018.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration officiated by Most Rev. Stephen Athipozhiyil, Bishop of Alleppey along with Most Rev. John Moolachira, the Archbishop and Fr. Varghese Kizhakevely, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese was concelebrated by several priests from the Archdiocese.
After the Holy Mass was the solemn Eucharistic procession from the Cathedral church through a three-kilometre route along the national highway. The faithful who accompanied the Eucharistic Lord, which was taken out in a beautifully decked vehicle, walked the distance by singing hymns of praises and thanksgiving and praying. After the procession, the faithful returned to the cathedral and devoutly took part in the benediction and returned home.
Blessing of Grotto and School Extension Mark the Bi-decennial Year
The inauguration and blessing of St Francis of Assisi School extension and the blessing of a magnificent grotto marked the bi-decennial anniversary of the erection St Francis Assisi Parish, Rangjuli on 16 September 2018. Most Rev. John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati officiated the blessing. While celebrating the holy Eucharist, he thanked Fr. Varghese Kizhakevely who raised the necessary finance and the benefactors and the donor agencies for helping the Archdiocese to materialize the project. Rangjuli Parish remains indebted the Fr. Joseph Kuttinal and his family for sponsoring a major portion of the construction. The grotto is built on a prime location that the people can no way pass the church yard without gazing at the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Mercy School of Nursing Inaugurated
Mercy School of Nursing - a new venture of the Hospitaller Sisters of Mercy in the North East Mission for serving the people was inaugurated by Rev. Mother Paola, Mother General of Hospitaller Sisters of Mercy and blessed by Most Rev. John Moolachira, in the presence of Mr. Biswajit Pegu D. C of Nagaon, Mr. Rupak Sharma MLA Nagaon, Dr A. C. Pator, Joint Health Director, Rev. Sr. Mariella HSM, Delegate Superior, fathers, brothers, sisters, doctors, staff of Mercy Hospital and well-wishers. It was a long awaited dream coming true for the Sisters as they were eagerly awaiting for a chance of educating young women to render their service to the sick with heart and hand. The first batch has 40 students on the roll.
